Task Manager shows a Process Image Name called "System" with User Name "SYSTEM". CPU 99%
I did a clean install of XP (sp2) from my HP OS disk and the "System" was there the first time I logged on. Since then I have upgraded all device drivers. Also, I disable all hardware items one by one to see if the problem would go away. At first, the Mem Usage was about 295Kb, but hasincreased to 79,000Kb.HP Pavillion dv8210us, AMD Turion 64 processor. 1.25gb ram. 80gb HDD. How can this process "System" be fixed?1 person needs an answerI do too

I guess your process has the folowing properties:Image Name = System Idle ProcessUser Name = SYSTEMCPU = 99Mem Usage =/- 28 KCorrect?Well, that is perfectly normal, everybody has it, it is harmless.

LAH2OS is not referring to the System Idle Process. The image is called System. PID = 4. System Idle Process PID = 0 I have a very similar computer as LAH2OS and my System Process is using 102,000Kb of RAM. The only reference I have been able to locate deals with high CPU usage, not abnormally high RAM usage. I have XP Pro SP3 installed. AVG 8.5.441, Zonealarm 8.0.298.000, and basically nothing else. I run a number of different anti-spyware programs on a regular basis. Hijack This returned nothing of consequence. I have 2G of RAM in this machine (HP Pavillion dv5017) so the System Process is not causing a noticeable slowdown, but it is a bit disconcerting. Anybody got anything on this?

You've probably solved this yourself eaagle, but I came across this problem a few days ago, noticing that my System process was running at 104 megabytes. It turned out to be AVG antivirus. Needless to say I've switched now :)
